Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cortez Allen wasn\’t the only player to get his knee worked on this past Friday as David Todd of ESPN 970 Radio reports Saturday via Twitter that tight end Matt Spaeth needed his right knee drained heading into the weekend.
The procedure is supposedly not a big deal, according to Spaeth, who sat out the Friday evening practice.
It certainly isn\’t what you want to hear right now, as the Steelers already have tight ends Heath Miller and David Johnson on the Active PUP list rehabbing knee injuries. Johnson had his knee worked on again recently as he needed scar tissue cleaned up from his previous surgery. He will likely be sidelined at least another week or two.
The Steelers brought back Spaeth during the offseason after he spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears. He is expected to play a big role in 2013 as a blocking tight end and compliment to second-year tight end David Paulson until Miller is fully recovered and ready to play.
