The Pittsburgh Steelers have only been at training camp for ten days now, and already we have seen some jumbling not only on the second-team offensive line, but the first-team offensive line as well.
During the Friday evening practice, tackles Mike Adams and Marcus Gilbert flipped sides and as of Sunday, they reportedly haven\’t flipped back as of yet. Mike Prisuta and Bob Labriola both reported Sunday afternoon that Adams is still lining up at left tackle with Gilbert manning the right tackle spot. Is this permanent? It\’s hard to tell right now.
As far as the second-team offensive line on Sunday there were a few surprises there as well. According to Labriola, that unit consisted of left to right; Guy Whimper, Justin Cheadle, John Malecki, D\’Anthony Batiste and Kelvin Beachum.
Batiste of course was just signed on Saturday after starting ten games at left tackle last year for the Arizona Cardinals.
Once again, it\’s hard to read too much into that second unit as it seems to flip every few days.
The Steelers will play their first preseason game this coming Saturday against the New York Giants and rest assured we\’ll be charting the offensive line units as well as the play of each player.
