Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace signed a 5-year, $60 million contract with the Miami Dolphins that included $27 million guaranteed at the start of the free agency signing period, but apparently he left some money on the table.
According to Adam Beasely of the Miami Herald, the Minnesota Vikings offered him more money.
Wallace\’s dad, Mike Jr., said “The [Vikings] had come to the point where they were telling him, ‘You don\’t have to live here, just be here during the season.\’ He wanted to get out of that snow and cold weather.”
The St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks were also reportedly interested in Wallace as well, but there is no word as to how much they were willing to pay the Mississippi product.
It is not surprising that the Vikings were interested in Wallace as they had traded wide receiver Percy Harvin to Seahawks just before the start of free agency. They ultimately had to settle for signing former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings.
Keep in mind that the state of Florida doesn\’t have a state income tax, so that, along with the beach and sunshine, may have helped influence Wallace\’s decision. Besides, what\’s there to do in Minnesota anyway? I am sure being close to South Beach was worth leaving a few dollars on the table.
