It was reported on Friday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell earned $29.49 million in 2011 and that news wowed Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
Harrison posted a screenshot of the ESPN report written by Darren Rovell on his Facebook page with the word, “Wow” attached to it.
Harrison has long had issues with Goodell and the way that he runs the league as it relates player safety and fining players, so it should come as no surprise that he would somewhat mock the Friday earnings report.
Goodell had said during the 2011 lockout that he was voluntarily earning a $1 salary until both sides came to an agreement. According to a copy obtained of the league\’s tax return he earned an additional $29,489,999.00 since the lockout ended. That\’s an impressive pay increase.
If you want to put that into perspective, Harrison has been paid roughly $36 million since coming into the league in 2002 as an undrafted free agent. He has been fined well over $100,000 by Goodell for hits that were deemed illegal over the years and suspended for a game without pay for his helmet-to-helmet hit back in 2011 for a hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy.
In a 2011 interview with Men\’s Journal Harrison called Goodell a devil, a crook, and a puppet, and added that if Goodell was ever on fire and he had to piss to put him out, that he wouldn\’t do it. Harrison would later apologize for those comments and said that they were way out of line after likely being urged by the Steelers to do so.
Goodell likely doesn\’t care about the comments made by Harrison anyway because he can easily afford to pay someone to piss on him should he ever catch on fire.
