Steelers Sign Former Penn State WR Derek Moye To The Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a practice squad move on Wednesday as Bob Labriola reports via Twitter that wide receiver Derek Moye has been signed and tight end Jamie McCoy has been released.

The move was likely made because of the ankle injury suffered by wide receiver Antonio Brown in the 24-20 win this past Sunday over the New York Giants. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday during his press conference that Brown is unlikely to play Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs because of the injury. Also injured in the game was running back Chris Rainey, who is the emergency fifth wide receiver on gamedays.

The Steelers already have receivers David Gilreath and Toney Clemons on the practice squad, so this could be a sign that Gilreath might be promoted to the 53 man roster later on this week. Tomlin stated Tuesday that a forthcoming move could be possibly.

Moye is a Penn State product who went undrafted this past April and signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins. He was waived in June by Miami and was claimed by the New Orleans Saints. Moye was ultimately released by the Saints prior to the start of the season.
