The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their team captains for the upcoming 2012 season on Monday and as expected they are quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the offense, and defensive end Brett Keisel for defense. No special teams captain was named.
Roethlisberger is entering his 9th season in Pittsburgh and is now one of the elder statesmen on offense since wide receiver Hines Ward was released this past offseason. The quarterback is expecting his first child this year and received his college degree from his Alma Mater this past offseason. This is the 4th year that Ben has been a captain or a co-captain.
Keisel, 33, was originally drafted by the Steelers in the 7th round of the 2002 draft and will take over as defensive team captain for linebacker James Farrior, who was released this past offseason.
