If the injuries to Marcus Gilbert or Ramon Foster wind up being serious enough to cause either to miss the game next Sunday against the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers no longer have the option of bringing back veteran Trai Essex as he announced today that he has signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
The signing is not surprising as former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians now holds that same position with the Colts.
Essex was with the Steelers through training camp, but was released during the final round of roster cuts as the team chose to retain seventh round draft pick Kelvin Beachum instead.
Essex was originally drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2005 draft out of Northwestern.
