With running back Mewelde Moore sidelined this week because of a sprained MCL in his knee, the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to promote undrafted rookie running back John Clay from the practice squad. Clay will wear #38 on Saturday against the St. Louis Rams. Clay was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Wisconsin on July 26, 2011 and has been on the Steelers practice squad all season. He will backup Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman, and likely be in on some special teams units.
To make room on the active roster for Clay, the Steelers placed rookie cornerback Curtis Brown on injured reserve with a knee injury. Brown was the Steelers 3rd round draft pick out of Texas and was a terror on special teams this year. He suffered a knee injury against the Cincinnati Bengals and sat out the last two games against the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers.
