The Kansas City Chiefs claimed quarterback Kyle Orton off waivers today following his Tuesday release by the Denver Broncos. It is unclear right now if Orton will be under center for the Chiefs Sunday night when they host the Steelers due to the short week. At worst, he almost certainly will be dressed as the back-up quarterback for the game.
The Chiefs played on the road Monday night against the New England Patriots as University of Pittsburgh product Tyler Palko made is first career start at quarterback after starter Matt Cassel was lost for the season with a broken hand the week before. Palko was 24 for 37 against the Patriots for 230 yards and his night included 3 interceptions in the 34-3 loss.
Orton\’s last start against the Steelers and that was back in week 9 of the 2009 season when the Broncos hosted Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football. Orton was 23 of 38 in that meeting with 221 yards passing and 3 interceptions.
There had been some reports since Orton was released that he did not want to be claimed by the Chiefs.
