Season 2, Episode 34 of The Terrible Podcast is up and my co-host David Todd is back from Las Vegas without a face tattoo or a new wife, allegedly, just in time for our 100th episode as we recap the Steelers 32-20 win yesterday on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. We\’d like to thank all our listeners for the fantastic support and helping us grow the show. We look forward to the next 100 and hope we get another deep playoff run this season in the process.
We open this episode with an homage to Aaron Smith. Smith has been out the last three weeks with a foot injury, but while recuperating, an undisclosed neck injury that apparently wasn\’t healing was revealed to team doctors. Upon examination it was revealed that Smith will need surgery and be out for the season. He was placed on the injured reserve over the weekend. This most certainly will end his Steelers career and most likely his football career. While not a Hall of Famer, Smith will go down among the best 3-4 defensive lineman in Steelers history.
We follow our discussion of #91 with a look at the injury report and for the second week in a row the Steelers seem to come out of this one in pretty good shape with Hines Ward being the only new name. We also look at the Steelers inactives from Sunday and when the injured ones can be expected back.
On to Sunday\’s action. We take a look at all aspects of this one. On offense we discuss the continued emergence of Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders bigger roles and the All-Pro chances for Mike Wallace in addition. The offensive line play didn\’t impress either of us and we talk about the media\’s criticism of Rashard Mendenhall and whether his lack of productivity is on him, the line or both. Ben Roethlisberger was Ben Roethlisberger again and when he takes care of the ball the Steelers offense is very difficult to stop.
On defense we discuss the personnel packages used Sunday, the excellent work of LaMarr Woodley the past few weeks and how Steve McLendon did in his first career start at nose tackle. We also discuss the play of Ike Taylor and how he approached covering Larry Fitzgerald this week. We also look at who was responsible for the Cardinals long touchdown.
Special teams were outstanding again on Sunday and David and I discuss why it isn\’t being discussed. Across the board these are strong units.
We wrap things up by looking at where the Steelers stand seven weeks in and what we can expect the next two weeks with the Patriots and Ravens coming to town. We take a quick look at last year\’s beating by New England and give you just a taste of our thoughts of this coming week\’s matchup.
