I was going through my charting of the games last year and noticed I had not posted the charting of games and stats of the Steelers defense versus their opponents personnel used. I will start formatting these up and will posting them over the next few weeks and then give a final post of the cumulative totals for the stat geeks like myself. I have included at the bottom a complete play by play as well. The personnel numbers are easy to read as the first number is the running backs on the field and the second number, if there is one, denotes the number of tight ends on the field. Add these two numbers together and subtract from 5 and you have the number of wide receivers on the field. For example, a personnel number of 11 means their was one back, one tight end and three receivers on the field. The S stands for shotgun formation. You can see that the Falcons used 2 backs on 20 of the plays they lined up for and had 3 backs on the field once and used 2 tight ends on 25 plays. They failed to spread the Steelers defense out very much during the game and could not run the ball either. Although Roddy White had 13 catches, I posted after that game why it really was not a big deal and how they let him have his yards underneath and never gave up the big play to him or very many yards after the catch.
