Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Press Conference Tuesday September 21st Week 3 Buccaneers

Mike Tomlin says Dennis Dixon will have surgery tomorrow at 8AM on left knee meniscus, they\’ll have more info after surgery on his time he will be out.

Tomlin says right guard Trai Essex has ankle sprain, could be limited.

Max Starks, Emmanuel Sanders, Jason Worilds and Casey Hampton all look on track to return this week.

Tomlin said Charlie Batch in pole position to start at QB this week, but said they will see how Byron Leftwich looks in practices this week. He also said the team will not sign a 3rd QB this week.

Tomlin not concerned about the shuffling of quarterbacks thus far.

Tomlin says Doug Legursky will start at right guard if Trai Essex can not go. Praises play of Doug thus far.

Tomlin says Antonio Brown made a strong case to get another hat at returning kicks this week. Also praised Stevenson Sylvester on special teams.

Tomlin said Lawrence Timmons was showing that he was becoming a force last year and was just slowed by the ankle injury. He said the light came on for Timmons last year and is not surprised by his strong play this year.

Tomlin joked he has Antwaan Randle El, Hines Ward and Arnaz Battle all at his disposal to play emergency quarterback citing that Ward threw for over 400 yards in the Peach Bowl while playing for the University of Georgia.
