The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Washington Redskins 23-6 behind the strong play of the defensive unit. The Steelers defense held the Redskins to 229 total yards and sacked Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell 7 times and intercepted him twice. The interceptions were Campbell\’s first of the season. The Steeler defense was put into a few tough spots, starting with the surprise opening on sides kickoff and an early Ben Roethlisberger interception on the Steelers opening offensive possession. The defense held the Redskins to just two field goals and no first downs on those early Redskin possessions.
Backup quarterback Byron Leftwich led the Steelers to two second half scores in relief of the injured Ben Roethlisberger, who injured his throwing shoulder late in the first half. Running back Willie Parker rushed for 70 yards in his first action after missing 4 games and scored on a run. Santonio Holmes returned from being disciplined last week and chipped in with 30 yards and a touchdown.
The Steelers move to 6 and 2 on the season and lead the rival Baltimore Ravens by a full game in the AFC North division.
