The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to stay busy adding to their offseason roster, signing four more players to futures deals today. They include: RB Daryl Richardson, OT Brian Mihalik, K Ty Long, and S Jacob Hagen.
Hagen, Long, and Richardson have all been reported as working out with the Steelers in recent weeks. Richardson is the most high-profile player on this list, drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 7th round of the 2012 draft. He rushed for 475 yards his rookie year but struggled in 2013, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry.
Long was likely brought in to have a kicker for rookie minicamp as neither Chris Boswell nor Shaun Suisham would be eligible. He will likely be cut afterwards, sometime in the summer.
Mihalik might be the most intriguing signing. Listed by the Steelers as an offensive tackle, he played defensive end at Boston College. Standing in at 6’9, he will draw easy comparisons to Alejandro Villanueva , who has taken a similar path and become successful. Here is a scouting report I did on him leading up to the NFL Draft last season, though a lot of it goes out the window given the position change.
These four signings now make 14 players given futures contracts since the Steelers’ season has ended.
