The Baltimore Ravens are reportedly releasing former Pittsburgh Steelers CB Arthur Maulet, per Jeff Zrebiec on X (via Cameron Wolfe).
“Ravens are releasing CB Arthur Maulet as CameronWolfe first reported,” Zrebiec wrote. “Move will create $2.2 million of cap space. Maulet was key member of one of leagues best defenses in 2023. But he wasn’t healthy last year and played only 3 games.”
Maulet struggled to stay healthy in 2024 and managed to play in just three games. He dealt with calf, knee, and hamstring issues last season and finished the year on injured reserve.
Following the 2023 season, during which Maulet significantly contributed to one of the best defenses in the league, the Ravens gave him a two-year extension worth $4 million. They are now cutting that short and releasing him to the open market.
Maulet entered the league in 2017 with the New Orleans Saints and bounced around with the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, and finally, the Pittsburgh Steelers before heading to Baltimore. He spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons in Pittsburgh and was a significant contributor in the slot as the Steelers’ nickel corner for those two years.
He will be 32 years old during this upcoming season, and he’s coming off an injury-plagued year, but he played really well in 2023 for the Ravens. He logged five passes defensed, an interception, 37 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, three QB hits, and two sacks that season, a continuation of another solid year with the Steelers in 2022.
Currently, the Steelers likely need to add some competition to Beanie Bishop Jr. in the slot. They have circled back to familiar corners in the past, like James Pierre. Could they do the same with Maulet and bring him back on a one-year deal? I wouldn’t be surprised, but that injury history at his age is worrisome.
Maulet has talked in the past about dreading life after football, so there is a good chance that he will seek to continue playing elsewhere.
Because the Ravens released him, he would not count against the Steelers in any way towards their compensatory draft pick formula for the 2026 NFL Draft.
