Garafolo: Giants Having ‘Great Conversations’ With Aaron Rodgers

The New York Giants are making a full-court press to convince QB Aaron Rodgers to sign with them instead of the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants are having positive dialogue with him. Whether it’s enough to get him to put pen to paper is anyone’s guess.

“Giants have had great conversations with Aaron Rodgers, from my understanding,” Garafolo said Tuesday morning. “And part of it is we think you and Malik Nabers are really going to vibe. we know you ask a lot of your wide receivers and this is a guy who can handle it and probably will thrive. And the kind of guy who helps you thrive as well.”

Nabers was the Giants’ first-round pick a year ago and topped an excellent wide receiver class. Despite poor quarterback play and injuries, he posted a 109-catch, 1,204-yard rookie season with seven touchdowns across 15 games. Adding a future Hall of Famer in Rodgers, who still has arm talent, could push him to even greater heights.

The Giants and Steelers appear to be the two teams in contention for Rodgers’ services. Both teams are in desperate need of a quarterback and whoever loses out on Rodgers will have even slimmer options to pick from going forward.

Garafolo built the case that the Giants, despite their horrid 2024 season, aren’t far away from putting everything together.

“In addition we’ve got Theo Johnson the tight end. Tyrone Tracy the running back. They’ve got pieces,” he said. “Darius Slayton back as well. It is kind of sort of attractive when you look at what the Giants are doing. So those conversations will continue.”

New York has invested and found offensive success in the draft. Johnson is an athletic downfield target. Tracy is a former wide receiver who had a strong rookie season out of the backfield. Slayton was somewhat surprisingly retained. The offensive line needs to improve but has also been invested in with tackles Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal along with center John Michael Schmitz.

Rodgers still has plenty of reasons to favor Pittsburgh. To exit the New York media market. To play for a head coach not in danger of getting fired. And the Steelers have weapons with George Pickens and DK Metcalf at wide receiver, Pat Freiermuth at tight end, Jaylen Warren in the backfield, and an offensive line that could make big leaps.

Still, if the Giants are offering a better contract and similar offensive opportunity, Rodgers could consider it. If there’s one thing about Aaron Rodgers, he marches to his own beat and anyone’s predictions are just wild guesses.
