Former Steelers DL Larry Ogunjobi Set To Sign With Bills

Larry Ogunjobi DL Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers released DL Larry Ogunjobi on Monday, but he wasted little time finding a new home. Per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Ogunjobi is set to sign with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year deal worth $8.3 million with $8 million guaranteed. The deal could be worth up to $10 million with incentives.

Ogunjobi spent the last three years with the Steelers after beginning his career with the Cleveland Browns and spending one season with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021. He got off to a nice start with the Steelers in 2024 but tapered off down the stretch and was an expected cap casualty this offseason. His contract with Buffalo will be a pay raise over the $4 million base and $3 million roster bonus Ogunjobi would’ve received had he remained on Pittsburgh’s roster.

The Bills, looking to bolster their defense this offseason, agreed to terms with EDGE Joey Bosa on Tuesday night. They’ve also agreed to terms with former Rams OLB Michael Hoecht.

Larry Ogunjobi had 41 total tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Steelers last year. During his tenure in Pittsburgh, he had 132 tackles, 15 of which went for a loss, six sacks and 26 quarterback hits in 48 games with 45 starts.

Ogunjobi was Omar Khan’s first veteran free agent signing after officially taking over as Pittsburgh’s GM, and he signed three-year, $28.75 million extension after his first season in Pittsburgh. His time in Pittsburgh was marred by injuries, although he was able to stay relatively healthy in 2024.

In Buffalo, Ogunjobi will likely play on the interior of the Bills’ 4-3 defense. Buffalo has Ed Oliver, DaQuan Jones and Jordan Phillips, but Ogunjobi can compete with Jones for starting reps and work in as a depth piece. The big question for Ogunjobi is going to be if he can stay healthy, but the Bills seem to be banking on it with the contract they gave him, which also represents the rising defensive line market.

The defensive line remains an area of need for the Steelers, and names like Levi Onwuzurike and Maliek Collins look like Pittsburgh’s best options in free agency. The team will also target the position in the draft, with names like Oregon’s Derrick Harmon or Ole Miss’ Walter Nolen potential first-round options.
