Former Steelers S Jalen Elliott Signs With UFL

Jalen Elliott

Former Pittsburgh Steelers S Jalen Elliott has found his next professional home, signing a contract with the UFL San Antonio Brahmas. The league made the announcement in its daily transactions recap.

Thanks to strong special teams value, Elliott made the Steelers’ initial 53-man roster and appeared in two games for the team this season. He logged 33 special teams snaps across Weeks 3 and 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts, though he failed to get in the box score. He was released on Oct. 1 and not re-signed to the practice squad.

Elliott, 26, has bounced on and off rosters, including the Steelers’, throughout his career. Pittsburgh initially signed him in August 2023 before releasing him at final cutdowns. During the season, he bounced on and off the practice squad. Pittsburgh signed him to a Reserve/Futures contract after the season but cut him in May. Spending the summer a free agent, the Steelers re-signed Elliott in August after reserve S Nate Meadors went down with an injury during camp.

Undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2020, Elliott signed with the Detroit Lions post-draft. In 2021, he appeared in eight regular-season games, including one start, and made 12 tackles. He spent time with the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders the following season.

The Brahmas finished 7-3 in their 2024 spring year under first-year head coach Wade Phillips. They made it to the UFL Championship Game before being shut out 25-0 against the Birmingham Stallions. Notable players who populated their roster included ex-Steelers RB Anthony McFarland, TE Alize Mack, EDGE Delontae Scott, EDGE Jamir Jones, P Brad Wing, and S Scott Nelson, along with former NFL draft picks QB Kevin Hogan, EDGE Boogie Basham, and WR Marquez Stevenson.

Jalen Elliott could still sign with an NFL team if one shows interest later this season. If not, he’ll prepare for the spring and look to put out good tape to get back in a training camp come 2025.
