Omar Khan Says Steelers Made Terrell Edmunds An Offer That He Declined

Wrapping a bow on the Pittsburgh Steelers losing strong safety Terrell Edmunds, GM Omar Khan confirmed the team made Edmunds an offer this offseason. One that he declined, choosing to accept a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles instead.

According to The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, Khan says the team sent Edmunds’ camp a contract that he turned down.

As Kaboly notes, Khan expressed a desire to bring him back. But Edmunds will move to the other side of the state, taking a deal worth up to $2.85 million if he hits all of his bonuses and incentives.

Based off this tweet, and likely the full quote once it becomes available, Khan didn’t specify the terms of the deal. But it stands to reason the team’s offer was the same as last year, a four-year player qualifying contract that would have lowered Edmunds’ cap hit on the Steelers’ books. In his first press conference as an Eagle, Edmunds said he had a “similar” offseason this year compared to 2022. Dave Bryan outlined the potential scenario well and Khan’s comment only strengthens that belief.

The Steelers reportedly brought back Damontae Kazee on a two-year deal worth $6 million, though the move has not been officially announced by the team, likely because Kazee hasn’t been in the city to take a physical and sign his contract.

With Edmunds gone, Mike Tomlin confirmed the team will be adding another safety to the roster. He told reporters that could come via free agency or the draft.

Edmunds was the Steelers’ first round pick in 2018. He spent five seasons in Pittsburgh, starting 75 games as the team’s starting strong safety. His play slowly but steadily improved each year, but he had a limited and niche role and lacked the splash plays the team prefers.
