Former Washington Commanders linebacker Cole Holcomb has passed his physical and will become a Pittsburgh Steeler. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting new details on Holcomb’s three-year deal, noting it’s worth $18 million total.
As of this writing, there’s no details on the structure of the deal. But this is the first time we’ve gotten any sense of the value and the money. It’s an average yearly value of $6 million, a number that’s perhaps slightly higher than expected. But Holcomb is expected to have an every-down role in the Steelers’ defense and the price tag justifies his anticipated snap count.
Holcomb started 48 career games in Washington, recording 388 tackles. In 2022, he started seven games before suffering a season-ending foot injury. Prior to being hurt, he notched 69 tackles with one tackle for a loss and one pass deflection. His best year came in 2021, a 142-tackle season that saw him make more splash with seven pass deflections, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack.
Pittsburgh’s completely turning over its inside linebacker room. Robert Spillane left for Las Vegas, Devin Bush won’t return, Myles Jack has been cut, and Holcomb and Miami’s Elandon Roberts have been added. The team could still add another inside linebacker via the draft. There’s also promising second-year player Mark Robinson, who impressed in limited and specific playing time at the end of his rookie season.
