Happy Friday and I hope yinz are doing well.
The first wave of free agency is over but the Pittsburgh Steelers have kept us busy. The team made a splashy weekend signing of OG Isaac Seumalo while bringing back CB James Pierre. Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan have been on the Pro Day trail all week, watching some of the top prospects in this year’s draft. The 2023 NFL Draft is just over one month away with Pro Days wrapping up by the end of next week.
Hope you all have a great weekend and that you enjoyed following our continued coverage. I thank you for visiting the site and we appreciate all of your great feedback. As always, we have five Friday night questions for you to answer.
Peace and love, peace and love!
1 – Which player is more likely to be drafted by the Steelers – Ohio State OT Dawand Jones or Iowa LB Jack Campbell?
2 – What round do you believe Pittsburgh will draft an EDGE rusher (if you don’t believe they will, say “None”)?
3 – Would it have bothered you to see Ben Roethlisberger sign and play for the San Francisco 49ers last year?
4 – On a scale of 1-10, ten being the most confident, how confident are you in Calvin Austin being the Steelers’ starting slot receiver next year?
5 – Released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week, would you bring back NT Al Woods?
Recap of Fifth 2023 Offseason Weekend Friday Night 5 Questions
Question 1: Steelers Depot respondents named all four external free agents as their favorite at least once. But Nate Herbig beat out Cole Holcomb by a ten to five margin to be the consensus favorite. It will be fun to watch these guys at camp. Hope to see all four make contributions in 2023.
Question 2: Several defensive position groups cited as the Steelers’ biggest need. Linebacker, specifically inside linebacker, was named a couple times. Cornerback was named six times. However defensive line, especially a nose tackle type, was named eight times. The Steelers signed Patrick Peterson and re-signed James Pierre but lost Cam Sutton at cornerback. Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb. They replace Devin Bush, Myles Jack, and Robert Spillane. The Steelers signed linebackers. Steelers re-signed Larry Ogunjobi.
Question 3: Perhaps due to the reported depth of the position, Depot respondents overwhelmingly predicted the Steelers selecting a cornerback with pick 17 in this year’s draft. It will be interesting to see what positions the Steelers address with their picks.
Question 4: It was close. But by a narrow nine to eight margin, Depot respondents believe the Jets are making the right move to acquire Aaron Rodgers. One minor complication is if the transaction happens, does Aaron Rodgers get the number 12 that the Jets retired in honor of Joe Namath?
Question 5: With one person not answering, we evenly split on whether the Steelers will re-sign Terrell Edmunds before the end of the month.
Here are the consensus responses of Steelers Depot respondents compared to the correct answers:
Questions | Fav FA Signed | Biggest Need | Position Selected first | Aaron Rogers to Jets Good Move? | Edmunds re-signs by EOM? |
SD Consensus | Nate Herbig | Defense Line | Cornerback | YES | SPLIT |
