Conference Championships To Feature Packers At 49ers, Titans At Chiefs

The 2019-2020 NFL season conference championship games are now set and will feature three of the four highest-seeded teams.

In the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Tennessee Titans next Sunday. The titans beat the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens on Saturday while the Chiefs overcame a 24-0 defect on Sunday to beat the Houston Texas 51-31 at Arrowhead Stadium.

In the Chiefs Sunday home win over the Texans, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 23 of his 35 total pass attempts for 321 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. Mahomes also rushed for 53 yards on seven carries in the win and the Texans defense only managed to sack him once.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce caught 10 passes from Mahomes for 134 yards and three touchdowns while running back Damien Williams scored three times as well with two touchdowns coming on runs of one and five yards. The Chiefs offense registered 434 total net yards in the win

The Chiefs had to overcome a 24-0 deficit to start the game as the Texans scored three touchdowns in the first quarter with one of them coming off a blocked punt and the other off a muffed punt. The Chiefs did not panic, however, as they scored 41 unanswered points in the next two quarters.

In a losing effort, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson completed 21 of his 52 total pass attempts against the Chiefs for 388 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Watson rushed for 37 yards and another touchdown on six total caries but was also sacked five times in total buy the Chiefs defense with defensive end Frank Clark being credited with three of them.

The San Francisco 49ers will host the Green Bay Packers in next Sunday’s NFC Championship following both teams winning this weekend.

The 49ers advanced to the NFC Championship on Saturday with a 27-10 home win over the sixth-seeded Minnesota Vikings. The Packers, on the other hand, advanced to the NFC Championship game Sunday night by beating the fifth-seeded Seattle Seahawks at home 28-23.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 16 of his 27 total pass attempts for 243 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s home win over the Seahawks while Green Bay wide receiver Davante Adams was on the receiving end of both scoring tosses on his way to registering eight receptions for 160 yards. Rodgers was sacked just twice buy the Seahawks defense Sunday at Lambeau Field. Packers running back Aaron Jones chipped in 62 yards and two touchdowns on his 21 total carries against the Seahawks.

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson completed 21 of his 31 total pass attempts for 277 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort. Wilson, who was sacked five times on Sunday by the Packers defense, also rushed for 64 yards on seven total runs during the game. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch scored twice in his team’s loss while Seattle wide receiver Tyler Lockett caught nine passes for 136 yards and a touchdown against the Packers.

The meeting next Sunday between the 49ers and Packers will mark the second time the two teams have faced each other in the NFC Championship game. The only other time it happened was in 1998 and the Packers won that game 23-10 in San Francisco to advance to Super Bowl XXXII.

The Chiefs and Titans have never met in the AFC Championship game before. The Chiefs lost to the New England Patriots last year in the AFC Championship Game. The Titans last played in the AFC Championship game in 2003 when they lost on the road to the Oakland Raiders 41-24.

The 49ers and Chiefs are both early touchdown home favorites to win next Sunday.
