Report: OLB Jayrone Elliott Present At Steelers Wednesday Practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers have apparently re-signed outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott with the immediate status of fellow outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo still unknown following his weekend arrest that included him being charged with simple battery, according to Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Chickillo was not at practice today, according to Jacob Klinger of pennlive.com.

Elliott was waived by the Steelers the Friday before the team’s Week 6 Sunday night road game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had registered one defensive tackle and two special teams tackles for the Steelers in the previous three games that he had played in prior to being waived.

The re-signing of Elliott makes a lot of sense with the Steelers being short at the outside linebacker position due to Chickillo being sidelined and with starter T.J. Watt currently dealing with an oblique injury that he suffered against the Chargers.

The Steelers have yet to officially announce the signing of Elliott and when they do we’ll know the corresponding roster move, which could be Chickillo being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Steelers also put in a successful waiver claim on outside linebacker Tuzar Skipper, who was waived by the New York Giants on Tuesday. Those waiver claims aren’t likely to be processed until around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
