AFC North Week 3 Recap: Winless Sunday For Entire Division

The Pittsburgh Steelers certainty had another disappointing weekend as they lost on the road to the San Francisco 49ers 24-20 and remain winless on the season. However, the Steelers got a break of sorts in Week 3 as the other three teams in the AFC North Division also all lost on Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens lost on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs 33-28 on Sunday at that was their first loss of the 2019 regular season.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson completed 22 of his 43 total passes against the Chiefs for 267 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Ravens running back Mark Ingram scored three of his team’s four touchdowns in the game and all of them came via runs. Ingram ended the game with 103 rushing yards on 16 carries. Jackson had the other Ravens rushing touchdown in the game and he finished with 46 yards on 8 carries. The Ravens leading pass catcher on Sunday was tight end Nick Boyle as he had four catches for 58 yards.

The Ravens defense wasn’t great on Sunday as they allowed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to pass for 364 yards on 27 completions. Mahomes threw three touchdowns on Sunday and the Chiefs offense rushed for 140 net yards. Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman led his team in receiving Sunday with 97 yards and a touchdown on two receptions.

The Ravens defense only sacked Mahomes once on Sunday and they also failed to record any turnovers in the contest.

As for the Cincinnati Bengals, like the Steelers, they’re still winless on the season as they lost Sunday on the road to the Buffalo Bills 21-17.

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 249 yards on 20 completions on Sunday with one touchdown and two interceptions. Dalton rushed for one touchdown and his lone scoring pass went to running back Joe Mixon. Mixon finished with 61 yards rushing on 15 carries and he also chipped in 34 receiving yards on his two receptions. Wide receiver Auden Tate led the Bengals in receiving on Sunday with six receptions for 88 yards.

The Bengals defenses recorded two turnovers and just one sack of Bills quarterback Josh Allen on Sunday. Allen threw for 243 yards on 23 completions with one touchdown and one interception. The Bills offense also managed 175 yards rushing against the Cincinnati defense on 36 total rushes.

The Cleveland Browns closed out a perfect 0-4 Sunday for the AFC North with a 20-13 home night loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

In the loss, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 18 of his 36 total pass attempts for 195 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He was also sacked three times by the Rams defense Sunday night. Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry caught three passes for 62 yards in the loss and Cleveland running back Nick Chubb rushed for 96 yards on 23 carries.

The Browns defense did record three turnovers Sunday night and sacked Rams quarterback Jared Goff twice. The Rams offense only managed 64 rushing yards against the Browns defense and Goff completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 269 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

AFC North teams now have a combined record of 3-9 record through the first three weeks of the 2019 regular season. In Week 4, the divisions two winless teams, the Steelers and Bengals, will play Monday night in Pittsburgh. The 2-1 Ravens will host the 1-2 Browns next Sunday.
