The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their first trade of the month, sending OT Jerald Hawkins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Rick Stroud. The Steelers will send Hawkins and a 2021 7th round pick for the Bucs’ 6th round pick in 2021.
Hawkins struggled this year recovering from a torn quad and wasn’t going to make the 53 with the deep offensive line the Steelers have.
Hawkins has suffered numerous injuries since being drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft, logging only a couple dozen snaps in his career. Most of those came in 2017 as a tackle eligible.
The Bucs’ offensive line had struggled this preseason and clearly needed help though this is obviously a minor move in talent and in return.
Since 2015, Kevin Colbert has made 11 trades from August until Week One, making him one of the NFL’s most active GMs.
UPDATE (3:21 PM): The Steelers have announced the trade. They will send Hawkins and a 2021 7th for a 2021 6th round pick.
