Former Steelers Faneca, Ward Announced As 2019 Hall Of Fame Semifinalists

The Modern-Era semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019 were announced on Tuesday and the list of names includes 25 players and coaches. Included in those 25 are former Pittsburgh Steelers players Alan Faneca and Hines Ward. Left off the list was former Steelers player Thomas Everett and former head coach Bill Cowher, both of whom were nominated for this year’s class back in September.

Faneca, as previously mentioned, has been finalist for the Hall of Fame the past three years while Ward was been a semifinalist the last two years.

Hopefully the fourth time will be the charm for Faneca and he should have a legitimate chance this year. As for Ward’s chances this year, while they’re probably much better than they were last year, one must think that fellow 2019 wide receiver semifinalists, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, might be a bit more deserving this year when it comes to that position.

The 25 semifinalists will next be trimmed to 15 Modern Era finalists on January 3. After that process takes place the Hall of Fame Selection Committee will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 and the list of finalists will go from 15 to 10, and then down to five. The Class of 2019 will be announced during the “NFL Honors” show that evening.

The 2019 Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony will be held next August 3 in Canton, Ohio.
