Another name to add to the list for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie minicamp list. Fordham tight end Phazahn Odom has been invited to this weekend’s camp.
At Fordham, an FCS school, Odom had a bit of a down season in 2016. He caught 14 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns after catching 37 balls for nearly 500 yards and seven scores the year prior. His best game of 2016 came against their top opponent, Navy, making three grabs for 66 yards and a score.
You can see that touchdown here, an impressive catch for the score.
Getting off the bus, he’s clearly an imposing man, officially weighing in at 6’7/6 251 pounds at his Pro Day. There, he ran a respectable 4.79 and jumped 33 inches in the vertical, plus a 7.27 three cone.
Last year, four tryout players made the Steelers’ roster. Cameron Stingily, Marcus Tucker, Brandon Brown-Dukes, and Donald Washington, meaning the team is willing to take a chance on guys most would dismiss. Usually, anyone to make the team has to have a knack for making big plays or a defining trait overall. Odom’s size certainly could give him a leg up.
His main competition will be Scott Orndoff, a UDFA brought in out of Pittsburgh immediately after the draft.
