It’s not exactly Pittsburgh West but safety Tre Boston is heading out to the West Coast. Boston signed with the Los Angeles Chargers Friday afternoon.
It’s notable after the Pittsburgh Steelers brought Boston in for a visit this past week. But the team never seemed to be in serious contention with Boston taking trips to Buffalo and LA. Four days ago, he announced via Twitter he was deciding between the Chargers and Bills, ostensibly already taking the Steelers out of the running.
He did at least acknowledge Pittsburgh after signing his new contract.
Pittsburgh is looking to bolster their safety depth after not adding to the position during free agency or the draft. Only four players – Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis, Robert Golden, and Jordan Dangerfield – are locks to make the roster. With Boston off the market though, the team may end up waiting until final cutdowns before taking another serious look at upgrading the position.
