Entering Sunday, we knew all but one of the teams who will be on the Pittsburgh Steelers 2017 regular schedule. Now that several key Week 17 games have gone final, we know the identity of that one missing team.
Thanks to their Week 17 win over the San Diego Chargers and combined with the Oakland Raiders Sunday loss to the Denver Broncos, the Steelers are now scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in 2017 as they have won the AFC West division. Had the Raiders beaten the Broncos, they would have been the AFC West winners.
While we now know that the Steelers and Chiefs will play each other in 2017, the two teams could wind up playing each other during the second round of the 2016 playoffs. That potential Divisional Round playoff game would take place in Kansas City if the Steelers can beat the Miami Dolphins next weekend in one of the two AFC Wild Card games.
Earlier this season, the Steelers beat the Chiefs 43-14 at Heinz Field in Week 5-night game. In that game, the Steelers defense sacked Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith four times in addition to intercepting him once. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns in that beat down of the Chiefs, who were without the services of linebacker Justin Houston in that game.
The rotating NFL schedule has the Steelers playing the AFC South and NFC North divisions in 2017 in addition to their usual games against the teams in their own division, the AFC North. Additionally, they will play the 2016 winners of the AFC West and AFC East divisions, the Chiefs and the New England Patriots.
While the Steelers 2017 opponents are now set, we won’t find out the dates and times of the regular season schedule until sometime in April.
