All things considered, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a healthy team ahead of their Sunday home game against the New York Giants and their first injury report of Week 13 that was released Wednesday afternoon reflects that.
As expected, not practicing on Wednesday were wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and running back DeAngelo Williams (knee). Heyward-Bey was noted as still being week-to-week by head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday as he’s still attempting to overcome a foot injury that he suffered during the first half of the Steelers Week 9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
As for Williams, who has missed the Steelers last three games as a result of him needing to undergo a minor surgical procedure on one of his knees after the loss to the Ravens, Tomlin indicated on Tuesday that the veteran is “perking up” when it comes to his rehab and recovery.
“He’s doing some good things and we’ll see where his rehabilitation leads us this week and if it leads us to practice then we’ll evaluate that practice,” Tomlin said of Williams. “He’s been working extremely hard and I think he’s starting to get some signs of some results from that work and that’s encouraging.”
After missing the Steelers last two games, safety Shamarko Thomas (groin) practiced on Wednesday and barring any kind of setback, he should ultimately be able to play Sunday against the Giants. Tight end Xavier Grimble (quadricep), who has also sat out the last two games, also practiced on Wednesday. Grimble, however, still might ultimately be inactive against the Giants now that fellow tight end Ladarius Green has returned to action.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown (not injury related) was reportedly given Wednesday off.
Even though they both reportedly suffered minor injuries in the team’s Thursday night game against the Indianapolis Colts, guard Ramon Foster (ankle) and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (hand) are not listed on the Steelers Wednesday injury report.
