The Pittsburgh Steelers have now wrapped up their Thursday practice ahead of Sunday’s road game against the Miami Dolphins and the injury report shows that 6 players failed to take part in the session.
Not practicing again on Thursday were wide receiver Sammie Coates (finger), tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), defensive end Cameron Heyward (hamstring), safety Shamarko Thomas (groin), center/guard Cody Wallace (knee), and wide receiver Markus Wheaton (shoulder).
While we already know that Gilbert, Heyward, Thomas and Wallace won’t likely play Sunday against the Dolphins, it’s looking like Wheaton and Coates could be inactive as well. Both will need to practice fully on Friday if they hope to play against the Dolphins. Heyward and Thomas, by the way, were officially ruled out on Tuesday by head coach Mike Tomlin.
With Wheaton and Coates both dealing with injuries, the Steelers might have to promote wide receiver Cobi Hamilton from their practice squad on Saturday.
While linebacker Ryan Shazier is currently not expected to play Sunday against the Dolphins, he was able to practice on a limited basis Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday. Should he miss his third game, Vince Williams will once again start in his place.
Practicing fully on Thursday were cornerback Justin Gilbert (knee), safety Robert Golden (hamstring), fullback Roosevelt Nix (back), and wide receiver Eli Rogers (toe) and barring any setbacks, it looks like all four will play Sunday in Miami.
Nix has yet to play in a regular season game so far this season while Golden and Rogers have both missed the last two games with their injuries.
Running back DeAngelo Williams (not injury related) returned to practice on Thursday after being given Wednesday off.
