The first reply on Twitter to the news I saw was, “Man he didn’t make it very long, did he?” And that sums up the news well.
Mary Kay Cabot tweeted out Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Robert Griffin III is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left shoulder.
He was injured attempting to run out of bounds late in the fourth quarter.
Griffin was able to gut out a wholly ineffective offensive performance in a 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He completed just 12/26 passes for 190 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. The Browns offense also recorded a safety against themselves when center Cam Erving snapped the ball into the end zone.
The Browns had just one offensive series after that hit. All three were handoffs to Isaiah Crowell, who rushed for 40 of the team’s 120 yards rushing.
Griffin’s status for next week is unclear when the Browns host the Baltimore Ravens Sunday at one. The Ravens defeated the Buffalo Bills today 13-7, holding Tyrod Taylor to just 111 yards passing. That’s not a good omen for Cleveland. If Griffin is not available, Josh McCown will start.
The Browns have now lost 12 straight season openers.
