The Pittsburgh Steelers have now wrapped up their first of two joint training camp practices with the Detroit Lions and head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the injury situation coming out of Tuesday’s session.
“[Roy] Philon went down with an ankle, that’s being evaluated,” said Tomlin. “[Jerald] Hawkins with a shoulder, that’s being evaluated. We have some guys that have been working in somewhat of a limited capacity continuing to work their way back in some form or fashion like Bud [Dupree] participated in a partial fashion today as is some others. But I mention that name because I know you asked about him.
“Senquez Golson had surgery on his Lisfranc, don’t have a prognosis at this point. Just rest assured he’ll be out an extended period of time. We’ll do what’s appropriate with him. We’ll have a better sense of that once we get him back into the fold. Ben [Roethlisberger] missed today with an excused personal absence. He had some personal business to handle and he was excused by me.”
When Jerald Hawkins left injured, Chris Hubbard stepped in at left tackle. Starter Marcus Gilbert was given Tuesday off.
The Steelers will have their second practice against the Lions late Wednesday and Tomlin will address the media again earlier in the day as the team prepares to play Detroit Friday night at home in their first preseason game of 2016.
