Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be putting on the foil, so to speak, as it will mark the first time this year the team will wear full pads and be allowed to hit. One Steelers linebacker is really looking forward to this annual event and it’s not hard to guess who it is.
“Today is like a holiday,” fourth-year inside linebacker Vince Williams posted on his Twitter account Sunday morning.
Williams, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, is likely looking forward to the team’s first backs-on-backers session that is expected to take place on Sunday. During previous training camps, he’s shown that he’s not afraid to mix it up during the fan-favorite drill as he fought with running back Le’Veon Bell during the 2014 version of backs-on-backers that took place during the team’s annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
It won’t be surprising to see Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin make Williams a main combatant in the drill several times on Sunday and I, for one, hope he gets pitted against a few younger offensive roster hopefuls such as running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and tight end Xavier Grimble.
