Craig Scott is in attendance at Steelers’ Fantasy Camp and is dropping all kinds of awesome nuggets of information from Carnell Lake today. He posted a quick video to Twitter of Lake originally talking about the team’s top two picks but then mentioning how impressed he’s been by 7th round selection Tyler Matakevich.
Check out the video posted by Scott.

If you can’t watch the video, here’s what Lake had to say.
“There’s a kid I’ve been looking at that I really kinda like. We call him ‘Dirty Red.’ The kid from Temple,” Lake says.
Obviously, it will be Jerry Olsavsky’s job to coach up Matakevich, not Lake’s, but the fact that he’s on the radar of another coach says even more. Lake doesn’t have to carry the water for the rookie. He has Artie Burns and Sean Davis to coach up. So to remember him, even if he had trouble remembering his school, speaks volumes.
We are still a far ways away from Matakevich doing anything that will impact his ability to make this roster. Training camp is the fight or flight moment for the players at the end of the roster and his spot is certainly not secure. Pittsburgh will almost certainly keep ten linebackers but he’ll have to battle Anthony Chickillo and Travis Feeney for that last spot.
For now, Matakevich and the rest of the Steelers will finish up OTAs next week, get a week off, and return for a three day mandatory minicamp. The Steelers report for training camp on July 28th with the first practice beginning the following day.
