One last piece of draft visit news before the real fun begins tomorrow night. Southern Mississippi cornerback Kalan Reed has reportedly met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Jeff Haeger of WHLT in Hattiesburg.
Though Haeger uses the term “visit,” it’s unclear if he means an on-site visit, counting against each teams 30. That seems unlikely for Pittsburgh at least, considering we have tracked their 30 prospects. Either way, there’s clearly interest from Pittsburgh in this springy corner. And boy, can Reed jump. At 5’11/1 192 pounds, he touched 41.5 inches in the vertical and 10’2″ in the broad at his Pro Day.
A three year starter, he picked off four passes and forced two fumbles last season. Because the buzz around him began so late, his projection is over the map . In my mock, I placed him in the late second round, Pro Football Focus identified him as a second round target, while NFL Draft Scout views his ceiling as the 4th round.
The Day 2 cornerback class is not particularly strong so taking a guy like Reed in the third – assuming he’s still there – would make a lot of sense.
