NFL Media draft analyst Charles Davis released his latest mock draft a few days ago and after previously having the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple with the 25th overall pick, he now has them taking Clemson cornerback Mackenzie Alexander in his latest offering.
Davis writes of his selection of Alexander for the Steelers:
The way Alexander plays on the perimeter, with absolute confidence that borders on arrogance (in a good way), he’s made to order for a Steelers team that needs help in the secondary.
Do keep in mind that Davis released his latest mock draft prior to the big Thursday morning trade between the Los Angeles Rams and the Tennessee Titans. However, with that notated, I think it’s long been assumed that at least two quarterbacks will come off of the board prior to the Steelers selection.
As far as Alexander goes, in the last few weeks we have seen a few of the major media draft analysts drop the Clemson cornerback completely out of their first round mocks. Outside of meeting with Alexander at the 2016 NFL scouting Combine and attending the Clemson pro day several weeks ago, the Steelers have yet to bring him in for a pre-draft visit. Read into that what you will.
As far as Apple goes in Davis’ latest mock draft, he is now penciled in as going to the Miami Dolphins with the 13th overall selection. Additionally, Davis has the Steelers selecting Alexander over Houston cornerback William Jackson III, who he has the Kansas City Chiefs selecting 28th overall.
Assuming Davis believes that Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey will be a cornerback at the NFL level, and it appears that he does, his latest mock is void of any safeties.
As of today, there are now two weeks remaining before the 2016 NFL Draft gets underway in Chicago.
