Of course, this isn’t directly Pittsburgh Steelers’ related but it could take place at Heinz Field so it counts enough.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly close to an agreement of playing a home-and-home series, with it kicking off in 2017 in Pittsburgh. It is unlikely this game is part of the Winter Classic, which takes place on January 1st, but part of the NHL’s expanded outdoor Stadium Series.
This would not be the first hockey game Heinz Field has ever seen. The Penguins hosted the Washington Capitals in the 2010-2011 season, falling that day 3-1. Still, it was an awesome event, which you can see clips of here.
The Penguins currently sit 5th in the Metropolitan Division, just behind the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. Though the Flyers have had the Penguins number, Pittsburgh knocked off Philadelphia in their only matchup this year, 4-3 back on January 21st.
