Steelers Sign QB/WR Tyler Murphy Back To Practice Squad

On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers waived quarterback/wide receiver Tyler Murphy in order to make room on the roster for cornerback Doran Grant. On Thursday, Murphy was signed back to the team’s practice squad after clearing waivers.

Murphy had been promoted from the practice squad the day before the Steelers played the Kansas City Chiefs as he was needed to back-up quarterback Landry Jones, who started the Week 7 game due to Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Vick both being sidelined by injuries.

This past Sunday, Murphy was one of the team’s seven inactive players for their home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He originally signed with the team this year as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College.

The Steelers were reportedly forced to promote Grant from their practice squad on Wednesday because other teams had interest in signing him away.
