The mystery, if you call it one, is now over.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told Stacey Dales of CBS Sports in a pregame taped interview that Landry Jones will indeed make his first career start on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Additionally, Tomlin said that Ben Roethlisberger will indeed be inactive for the game. Roethlisberger is expected to return next week for the Steelers home game against the Cincinnati Bengals as he was able to practice more this week than he did last week. Sunday will mark the fourth-straight game that he’s missed this season after spraining his left MCL in Week 2.
All of this also means that Tyler Murphy will be the backup to Jones on Sunday. Murphy was promoted from the team’s practice squad on Saturday.
Fellow backup Mike Vick is also expected to be inactive on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
The other inactives, which will be released in 45 minutes, will include safety Will Allen and defensive end Stephon Tuitt.
