The Pittsburgh Steelers have a short week to prepare for their Sunday afternoon game at Heinz Field against the 4-1 Arizona Cardinals and their first injury report ahead of that game does include some not-so-positive news when it comes to the possible availability of a few players for that contest.
Not practicing on Wednesday were safety Will Allen (ankle), linebacker Jarvis Jones (hip) and guard Doug Legursky (back). Allen reportedly needed an MRI performed Tuesday afternoon on the left ankle that he injured Monday night and at this point, it will be surprising if he’s able to play Sunday against the Cardinals.
As for Jones, he played 36 snaps Monday night and didn’t appear to be injured in that game. Friday will likely be a key day for him when it comes to his possible availability for Sunday’s game. Even though he did suit up Monday night, Legursky didn’t see the field against the Chargers.
Limited on Wednesday were cornerback Cortez Allen (knee), quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and linebacker Ryan Shazier (shoulder).
While Roethlisberger isn’t expected to play against the Cardinals, it’s good to see that he is indeed back on the field and possibly getting some reps during 7-on-7 drills.
As for Cortez Allen and Shazier, they’re both already trending in the wrong direction when it comes to playing on Sunday. Both players have missed the last several games, but head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that he was hoping that Shazier would be available this coming weekend.
Wide receiver Martavis Bryant is not listed on the Wednesday injury report and that’s great news as it looks like he might just make his 2015 debut against the Cardinals.
