The Pittsburgh Steelers now have a short week to prepare for their Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals following their thrilling Monday night win over the San Diego Chargers and head coach Mike Tomlin updated the health of the team during his Tuesday press conference.
For starters, veteran safety Will Allen (ankle) is having an MRI performed on his left ankle that he injured Monday night against the Chargers. Allen failed to return tro the game after leaving late in the first quarter.
“I’ll have more information on him as we move forward,” said Tomlin.
Safety Ross Ventrone (hamstring) is also currently being evaluated after he injured his hamstring Monday night. Like Allen, Tomlin said that he would have an update on him at a later time.
As far as guys who have missed games recently with injuries, Tomlin said that he expects that linebacker Ryan Shazier (shoulder) will be available this week. Cornerback Cortez Allen (knee) is continuing to work his way back as well, according to the Steelers head coach.
Tomlin had no real update on the status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (knee), however.
“I hadn’t requested one,” said Tomlin. “I’ve really been focused on the guys that are at the brink. Guys like Shazier, or guys that got hurt in-game like Will Allen.”
As far as wide receiver Martavis Bryant (knee?) goes, Tomlin said that he will be activated to the 53 man roster by 4 p.m. on Tuesday. He wouldn’t, however, comment on the perceived injury status of Bryant.
Tomlin did not address the status of nose tackle Daniel McCullers, who was inactive Monday night even though he was listed on the Saturday injury report as probable.
The Steelers first official injury report for Week 6 will be out Wednesday afternoon.
