The Pittsburgh Steelers held their ninth training camp practice of 2015 on Wednesday and afterwards, head coach Mike Tomlin talked about what took place during the session.
“Good spirited work today,” said Tomlin. “Infused two-minute into our practice there. Just covering that scenario and obviously we’ll work it again prior to going to Canton. Touching all of the basis with situational football to get prepared to step into a stadium. Like the work, like the energy today coming off an off day. Wasn’t perfect, never is, but they worked.”
The Steelers suffered a few injuries Wednesday as both safety Robert Golden and guard Chris Hubbard were carted off during the session. Tomlin, however, only updated the condition of Golden after practice was over.
“Had one significant injury to speak of, you guys saw Robert Golden went down there at the end of the two-minute. He’s being evaluated and I don’t have anything of any substance for you in that regard, said Tomlin. “A lot of the other bumps and bruises are associated with camp. Nothing to speak of any significance from that standpoint. Hopefully will get some of these guys back as they get well.”
Tomlin did say that backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is getting closer to coming off of the team’s PUP list, but he still didn’t give a timetable for when that might actually happen. Gradkowski resumed throwing on the side Wednesday as he continues to rehab his injured shoulder that bothered him throughout the offseason.
Tomlin was later asked to talk about what wide receivers coach Richard Mann brings to the position group.
“30-plus years of experience,” said Tomlin. “You don’t get to do this thing for 30 years unless you know what you’re doing and you’re good at it, but beyond that, you build a rapport with people, you’re a relationship-type of a guy. I got a great deal of respect for Richard. We’ve worked together for over 10 years together in two different cities.”
