There is only one day of training camp left for the Pittsburgh Steelers now that their Thursday practice is in the books and head coach Mike Tomlin met with the media again at the conclusion of the session.
“Good work day today,” said Tomlin. “Working off of cards in preparation for this weekend’s game, but that’s a big part of this process as well. Part of our evaluation is evaluating a guy’s ability to take in information off a card and still create a competitive atmosphere so that we have good game prep. So introduced that today, a lot of good work in that area. We’ll continue to do some of those things tomorrow.”
As usual, Tomlin updated the overall health of the team early on during his media address.
“Nothing really new on the injury front,” said Tomlin. “Have a couple of guys with very minor injuries, shouldn’t be a factor in terms of their participation or availability for this weekend. Ryan Shazier didn’t finish practice. Will Johnson didn’t either, but expect them back out tomorrow.”
Tomlin was asked to evaluate the Steelers offensive line with training camp now winding down and specifically right tackle Marcus Gilbert.
“They’ve done some nice things, but we expect them to,” said Tomlin. “We’ve got continuity within that group, not only in terms of the players, but the coaching. Good to have Munch [Mike Munchak] back with that group and the sky’s the limit for them, and I guess you can include Marcus in that discussion as well. These guys are not young guys anymore, these guys are moving into the prime of their careers and they’ve done it together. So we’ve got a lot of expectations regarding that group.”
