The Pittsburgh Steelers Monday training camp practice wrapped up about an hour ago and head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media afterwards to answer questions about the session.
“Another good work day for us today,” started Tomlin. “Love the elements. It was hot and uncomfortable but that’s part of this process. Hopefully that aids in stressing in some ways, make them concentrate and execute detail in the midst of it. We don’t have control of the weather, it’s just a good rep to deal with conditions like we had today. Good energy and enthusiasm as we do some of the things that we’ve been doing, guys working hard. Got some guys back positionally, continuing to work. Guys like Daniel McCullers, working – Rob Golden and some other guys – Mike Mitchell – continued to add to their work as they walk back from the injuries. But just good, general work from an overall standpoint.”
Defensive end Stephon Tuitt failed to practice Monday and Tomlin was asked to comment on his condition.
“He’s got a minor, day-to-day type thing,” said Tomlin. “We’ll take a look at him and hopefully he’ll be back out there on Wednesday.”
The Steelers have been showing some 4-3 looks in their preseason games so far this year and Tomlin was asked if that’s just a little wrinkle to throw out there.
“We’ve been in that structure in sub package football since I’ve been here,” said Tomlin.
Tomlin was also asked about what wide receiver Markus Wheaton as it relates to his slot role.
“He’s working on that,” said Tomlin. “He’s missed some time here with an injury and it’s good to have him back out there, but that’s something very much in development.”
Not practicing Monday in addition to Tuitt were Steve McLendon, C.J. Goodwin, Vince Williams, Lawrence Timmons, Jordan Zumwalt, Ross Ventrone, Josh Harris, David Nelson and Cameron Clear. No updates were given by Tomlin on those players, however.
