On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers waived undrafted offensive lineman Micah Hatchie injured and now we know what led to that transaction.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Hatchie, who played his college football at Washington, had suffered a torn left Achilles tendon and has since had surgery to repair it.
Hatchie cleared waivers Thursday and that means he has reverted back to the Steelers injured reserve list for the time being. The team could ultimately waive him again from that list with an injury settlement in the near future as that is what often happens to rookie undrafted free agents that get injured early in the offseason.
Hatchie, who was signed to the Steelers offseason roster in early May, was a three-year starter at left tackle at Washington. The Steelers signed former Indiana offensive lineman Collin Rahrig on Wednesday to fill the open spot on the team’s 90-man roster. He was issued jersey number 54.
