James started 31-of-36 games at Penn State, catching 78 passes for 1,005 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a blocker, he was credited with 261 knockdowns/key blocks and 27 touchdown-resulting blocks.
James figures to do battle this summer with Rob Blanchflower for the third tight end on the Steelers depth chart. He is now the fifth Steelers draft pick that has been signed as Senquez Golson, Doran Grant, Anthony Chickillo and L.T. Walton have already come to terms on their rookie deals.
James’ contract should total out at around $2,461,652 and include a signing bonus of roughly $181,652.
