New Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree might very well be a “football junkie”, but even so, he’s still probably got a lot to learn about his new team after being selected 22nd overall in the first-round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Dupree, however, does know about one player on the Steelers roster and that player is veteran linebacker James Harrison and he asked about him when he had dinner with Mike Tomlin the night before his Pro Day.
“He had a lot of questions about James Harrison, not only the player, but also the professional,” said Tomlin after the selection of Dupree. “He asked a lot about his workout regimen and things of that nature. He asked good questions for a young man.”
During his conference call with the media, Dupree was asked to talk about his dinner with Tomlin and what kind of questions he asked about Harrison.
“Just how does he work? What does he do in the offseason? They explained that he’s just a hard worker. He took younger guys up under his wings too. That’s really about it,” said Dupree.
Harrison, who was re-signed during the offseason, has now taken on more of a leadership role with the team. In fact, he’s been training with several of the other linebackers on the roster out in Arizona over the course of the last several weeks.
Harrison is a workout warrior, so Dupree better be prepared to push himself harder than he ever has before if he wants to impress the 37-year-old veteran as a rookie. It’s good to know that he knows all about the standard that Harrison has set in Pittsburgh and now he can begin working to uphold it.
