Should the Pittsburgh Steelers notch their eighth win Sunday at home against the New Orleans Saints, head coach Mike Tomlin will be able to add his name to a very short list of distinguished former NFL head coaches when it comes to winning consistently.
According to Steelers PR/Media Manager Dom Rinelli, with a win Sunday, Tomlin would become the seventh head coach in NFL history with at least eight wins in each of their first eight seasons.
Of the six head coaches in NFL history that have won at least eight games in each of their first eight seasons, only three of them managed to do so with one team. Those three coaches were Dennis Green, John Madden and George Seifert.
That will be quite an accomplishment for Tomlin, who will almost certainly win at least eight games this season unless the team closes out the season 0-5.
The Steelers opened up as three-point favorites over the struggling Saints, who lost Monday night to the Baltimore Ravens. Since Tomlin took over as head coach in 2007, the Steelers have compiled a 20-12 in November, 10-5 at home and have won last three home games at Heinz Field in November.
With a win Sunday, @steelers @coachtomlin would become the 7th head coach in NFL history w/ at least 8 wins in each of their 1st 8 seasons.
