Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed passes to seven different teammates Monday night in the 30-23 win over the Houston Texans but second-year wide receiver Markus Wheaton wasn’t one of them.
After only catching four of the 11 passes thrown his way in the loss last Sunday in the loss to the Cleveland Browns, Wheaton failed to catch both of the passes that Roethlisberger threw his way Monday night.
Wheaton and Roethlisberger both admitted last week that the two spent extra time in the film room together following the loss to the Browns, but it’s obvious that the two still aren’t on the same page together.
While Wheaton didn’t record a reception against the Texans, he still appeared to being giving good effort when it came to blocking in the running game, so it’s not like he’s checking out of games completely even though he’s not contributing much in the passing game.
Wheaton is still young and he has a very good head on his shoulders. He’s always striving to get better and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he’s contributing once again like he did in the regular season opener against the Browns. Perhaps a few more film extra film sessions with Roethlisberger will help expedite that process.
